
Carmelo Fontana

Carmelo Fontana is a lawyer with over 20 years’ experience in the fields of intellectual property, data protection and technology transactions. In January 2011, he joined Google’s legal team, where he handles regulatory and commercial matters for Italy.
He is co-founder and President of AIRIA, the Italian Association for the Regulation of Artificial Intelligence, and is a university lecturer in the fields of new technology law, innovation policy, and AI and market regulation.
Carmelo is admitted to practise law in California and Italy and is a Certified Privacy Professional in the United States. He holds an LL.M. in Law, Science and Technology from Stanford Law School, where he studied as a Fulbright scholar. Carmelo’s academic background also includes a Master’s degree in Law with honours from Luiss Guido Carli and a PhD in Business for Society from the University of Milan-Bicocca.
