Alessandro Fermi holds a degree in Law, is a barrister and a lecturer.

From 2002 to 2007, he served as a Provincial Councillor in Como; from 2007 to 2012, he held the post of Councillor for Active Labour Market Policies, Economic Activities, Vocational Training and Universities for the Province of Como.

In 2004, he served as a municipal councillor and in 2009 was elected Mayor of the Municipality of Albavilla, a post he held until his election as a regional councillor in February 2013.

In December 2014, he was appointed Undersecretary for Programme Implementation and National Institutional Relations for the Lombardy Region, a post he held until the end of the legislative term.

Re-elected as a Regional Councillor in March 2018, he was proclaimed President of the Council on 5 April.
